An extended catechism, with a supplementary table of biblical texts pointing out various duties, sins to be avoided, threatenings to the wicked, blessings to the righteous, etc., compiled for the use of the Harewood Sunday School in Yorkshire, and prepared for publication by the local vicar, Richard Hale (1773-1854), evidently in memory of the compiler, his late wife, Mary Ann Hale, née Loft, and their short marriage of just five years. The barrister and artist Sir Francis Newbolt, brother of the poet, with tales of fishing - in Scotland, on the Thames, and especially in the salmon rivers of Norway - with a concluding piece on "The Angler's Library". "There is a freshness and a certain refined choice of language in these three-and-twenty chats on angling topics which raise them above the usual level of fishermen's stories" (St. James's Gazette, 26th April 1897). London : Chapman & Hall, [1859]. A set of hand-coloured maps of the English counties, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight, with general maps of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The maps were originally published serially between January 1830 and July 1832 and are here reissued in lithographic form with the railways, etc., brought right up to date - showing, for example, the Lewes-Uckfield line opened in 1858. The original engraver, Sidney Hall, died in January 1831. A number of plates were already completed, but from September 1831 the remaining counties (from Rutland onwards) are signed not with his characteristic "Sidy. Hall", but with the plainer "S. "Mrs. Ponsonby emphasised the remark with a nod of her pretty grey head. A woman of fortune, of good birth, she was a despot in her particular circle, and, like most despots, continually broke her own rules".
