Description:
11" x 7 1/4" photo album with just under 300 photos. One photo near the beginning of the album is dated 1922 within the photo. Most photos are attached to the album pages with glue, appear to be made between the years 1922-1925. Photos made between 1922-1925 vary in size from 2 7/8" x 2" to 6 3/4" x 4 3/4". Many pages throughout are cluttered with images while other pages possess only one photo. Some images appear to be family photos while others focus attention on a cast of students at what looks to be Dartmouth College. Several pages are dedicated to the debonair scholars, featuring portrait after portrait. I suspect that many of these men were in a fraternity together. There is one photo that looks like Edward, the Prince of Wales, while other photos include campus building's exteriors and interiors; leisure activities: including skiing, trips to the waterside, boating excursions, and trips to the mountains. And more family portraits. Eleven lose color photographs made between approx. 1977-1981,… Read More

Description:
13 1/2" 10 3/8" photo album of 40 leaves/51 pages, 121 Photographs, 51 photo postcards, and 41 printed post cards. Photos vary in size from 2 3/8" x 1 3/4" to 2 3/4" x 4 1/2". Three photographs are delightedly hand-tinted. It appears that this group of friends took a trip in 1941 along the western region of North America, across California, Oregon, Arizona, and B.C., Canada. Locations (and some people) are often identified by handwritten script under photos. There are many photos of their trip to Death Valley California, including of Scotty's Castle, Bad Water, and other architectural and landscape features. While in that region of California, they also visited Los Angeles, the Huntington Library and Gardens, the Whittier Library, Pasadena, Signal Hill in Long Beach, and 100 Palms (which has now inflation to Thousand Palms, CA). In Northern California, they visited Monterey, Palo Alto, San Francisco, etc. Norther still, they managed a visit Salem, Oregon; Olympia, and Seattle, Washington. They… Read More

Description:
You can feel the love that went into putting together this 11.25 x 7.25" black string-bound album with "Photographs" on the front cover in gold. It has around 165 black-and-white photos and photo postcards from a trip Lillian Dudley took in 1915 to a couple of towns in Massachusetts, mainly Stoughton and Brockton. The album begins with a brief newspaper clipping about Lillian's trip and she is careful to include details and photos from when the road trip began and where they stopped. There is a map next to which Lillian has written down the towns she stopped at enroute to Stoughton. Once in Stoughton Lillian stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Seth J. Reed. Lillian clearly enjoyed music, as she often includes clippings with the titles of records listened to on the victrola and frequently attended band concerts. Photos mostly show Lillian with her friends, automobiles, cars, and two children-Dorothy and Dudley-who seem to be her niece and nephew. There are also occasional photos of an adorable dog and pictures of… Read More

Description:
8.25 x 6" green string-bound album. In yellow on the front cover reads: "To-Bobby, From-Charles & Tess" with flowery star symbols painted on. The first page of the album features a delightful little illustration of the moon or sun against a river in the forest, and it says that this album of "Honeymoon Snaps" is dedicated to Marie J. E. West by Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Anderson Jr., who compiled this chronicle of their honeymoon. The first photo in the album is hand-colored and features Tess in her wedding gown. The album features 27 black and white photos accompanied by detailed summaries of the day-to-day of Charles and Tess's 1928 honeymoon, which took them from Buffalo, New York, to Camp Perry, to Ontario, Canada, and to Syracuse, New York. The photos show Charles and Tess enjoying their time at Camp Perry, in front of landmarks or exciting landscapes, and in hotels. There are some lovely photos of Niagara Falls and interesting photos of the Goodyear Dirigible and aeroplane maneuvers at Camp Perry.… Read More

Description:
This massive album, 16 ½" x 12" x 2 ½", documents the four years in college of Virginia Lee Ames, from her matriculation in September 1918 through her graduation in 1922. You can feel the love that went into making this album as you page through it. There are 45 pages, overflowing with photographs and ephemera. There are around 280 photos which appear at the front of the album, taking up the first 15 to 20 pages (each page being two sides). After that initial burst of photographs, many of them annotated by Ms. Ames with some whole pages filled with writing and photos that by themselves are wonderful pieces of folk art, the ephemera of a very active college life takes over. One gets the sense that Ms. Ames was an outgoing, social person who made friends easily and took full advantage of the many opportunities offered at Hamline. The album has faux-leather black covers in fair to good condition. The covers show some edge wear; there is wear at the binding but no separation. The top left corner of the… Read More

Description:
11 x 14" heavy brown photo album that measures around 3" thick. Contains around 136 photos which look to be albumen prints, measuring between 3.5 x 4.75" and 5 x 3.5" which are glued to the thick, gilded-edge pages. The prints are accompanied by neatly handwritten annotations identifying the places in the photos. The album starts in the University of Oxford and Lincoln Cathedral. The album then moves to the Borgund Stave Church in Norway, the city of Bergan, the Romsdalsfjord, the Göta Canal, Stockholm, and Copenhagen. While most of the prints are of waterfalls, glaciers, hotels and other buildings, there are also photos of tourists on a ship and some gorgeous photos of the sunset on the water. There are also photos of people that the annotations identify as "Lapp peasants", "Hardanger peasants", and "Thelemarken peasants." The album is likely from the mid to late 1800s. The pages are in sections and detached from the covers which have rubbing and edge wear.

Description:
11.25 x 7.5" brown string-bound photo album with "Photographs" in a gold oval and a fireplace embossed on the front cover. The inside front cover reads: "Property of Carlton J. Higginbotham, Willoughby, Ohio." There's also a note taped to the inside cover about Carl's mother, a governess, and his father, a landscaper and gardener, both of whom worked at Sherwick (a large estate), where they met and eloped. Carl notes that their families got along well, but his father's mother hated Carl's mother for taking her son away while he was supporting the family. Contains around 200 black and white photos from the 1920s to 1930s which largely show Carl's friends and family, early airplanes, and family trips to other parts of Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, and lovely photos of the Niagara Falls. Photographs measure between 1.5 x 1.5" and 7 x 5" and are held to the pages with corner tabs and glue, as well as accompanied by fun annotations. Interesting photos include damaged houses after the Lorain cyclone blew… Read More

Description:
10" x 13" x 2" thick photo album/scrapbook with over 450 snapshots and loads of ephemera arranged in an artistic manner. The album was put together by Margaret M. Potter, who went to West Des Moines High School in Iowa, and went on to Monmouth College in Illinois and Drake University in Des Moines. The album dates from 1915-1923 and gives a good idea of what Margaret was like. She was a popular girl in both high school and college and was voted May Queen while in college. She was involved with the Sorority Delta Gamma and part of the Phi Gamma Club. There are some annotations, and there are several newspaper clippings that relate to school and her activities. Photos include images from the Iowa State Fair in 1917, hanging out with friends, children, and family, etc. There is even a photo of the house where she was born and lots of autographs from her friends.
